About Heyns Turf
INTRODUCTION TO HEYNS TURF
Heyns Turf was established in South Africa in 2006 in Johannesburg with one franchisor-managed outlet. The business started as a result of entrepreneur, Solly Heyns, becoming aware of an opportunity for the supply of synthetic turf. This came about when he arranged for synthetic turf to be installed over the entire play area of his wife’s pre-school in Sandton, Johannesburg. Solly was amazed at the success and benefits from the installation and yet was equally amazed at how difficult it was to find a reputable installer who could provide good advice and service. As a result the Heyns Turf business was formed and today the business specializes in the supply and installation of synthetic turf for various applications such as domestic (home gardens), sports (putting greens, hockey and soccer fields), business (showrooms, outdoor areas etc). Solly Heyns, founder of the highly successful Dent Doctor franchise chain some 15 years ago in South Africa and an experienced franchisor, soon realized that the Heyns Turf business concept could be successfully franchised, thereby creating opportunities for many entrepreneurs in a new growth industry. The franchising of the business commenced in 2007 with the first franchise outlet starting business in Cape Town.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH SPORT
It has been said that the human spirit cannot flourish in a state of poverty and ignorance. We at Heyns Turf are committed to the upliftment and growth of human beings. Most of us are familiar with the value that sport has in this process of upliftment. The fact that there are a number of organisation not only in South Africa, but across the world involved in uplifting communities through the medium of sport shows the significance and value of this concept. In South Africa the majority of the people who are in need of a better quality of life play soccer and live in previously disadvantaged areas. Solly Heyns, CEO of Heyns Turf has the vision to bring the beautiful game to people in these areas through the provision of adequate facilities for them to play the game they love. Solly’s vision extends further into providing opportunities for entrepreneurs to earn a living thereby developing self respect and confidence. These ideas have been the basis for developing a concept that will bring soccer to the people who will benefit most along with the many associated opportunities open to those who are willing to take them.
Johannesburg Development Agency Project
At Heynsturf we are excited about the work done by the JDA to revive the Hillbrow, Berea and Yeoville areas. It is rewarding to be a part of a project to improve the environment for the benefit of all our people. We completed our first project in Leroith Park, Hillbrow. Excavations have started at Ekhaya Park. Soon we will transform the area into a stunning green space with the help of all the contributors involved in the project.
